The author fulfilled the role of the chazzan of the Shas Chevra (Vasvári Pál Street) Synagogue in Budapest that belonged to the so-called status quo ante movement, for one and a half decade. Thus it is no wonder that the author decided to preserve the memory of an important segment of the history of the synagogue and the community in the 1980s for future generations in a longer essay. The Yerusha Online received the author’s full consent and contribution to publish his work in order to give a possibility to our readers to have a glimpse into the life of the Jewish community in Vasvari Street, and - all in all - into the Jewish community life of Budapest, during the penultimate decade of the 20th century.
